Pregnancies are keeping NASCAR Drivers busy

I announced several weeks ago that Jimmie and Chandra Johnson are expecting their first baby later this year. The competition of the race track seems to apply to off the track when it comes to having babies. Jimmie’s teammate and co-owner, Jeff Gordon became the latest driver to announce a pregnancy.

Jeff and his wife, Ingrid, said they are expecting their second child in August. So with the Gordons and the Johnsons both expecting babies there is also Carl Edwards, Elliott Sadler and Juan Pablo Montoya who have pregnant wives.

“I don’t know what’s going on in our sport right now.” Jeff Gordon had to say about all the pregnancies.

Chandra Johnson is due in July. Edwards and Sadler could become first-time fathers in the next few weeks. Edwards’ wife is due Feb. 17, right after the season-opening Daytona 500. Sadler’s wife is due in early March and Montoya’s wife is due in July also.

It will be interesting to see how all of these drivers juggle a delivery with the racing schedule. It looks like Edwards will be the first to have to do so and this is what he had to say about the situation.

“My plan is to go race the best I can and we’ve got backup plans in case something happens. I don’t anticipate missing any car time. Not at all. My wife’s pretty cool. She’d be mad at me if I left. Hopefully, the timing will work out. Hopefully, the worst case is I miss some practice.”

So it looks like we have a lot of drivers at this time who are expecting some new little champions. All of us here at Jimmie Johnson Chevrolet in San Diego would like to congratulate all of these driver’s and wives who are expecting.

Here are some names for Jimmie and Chandra Johnson’s baby that is expected this coming July. It looks like the list comes from Brant James of ThatsRacin.com.

The top-five names that four-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson and is wife, Chandra, might ponder as they anticipate the birth of their first child this summer:

1. Chase – Time to honor the playoff system that helped make dad what he is today (and pay for those piano lessons, ponies and braces in a few years).

2. Chad – In honor of the uncle/crew chief. Hopefully, the kid will have the sense of humor to one day change his last name to Quatro Ocho.

3. Junior – Instant cred with the nostalgia crowd, and maybe the 88 crew, too.

4. Danica – Search engine nightmare for the Googlers and the Bingers. And what an ice-breaker with the new part-time teammate.

5. Charlotte – As in "Motor Speedway." A nod to one of two tracks where he's won a career-best six times. What, you'd prefer "Martinsville" Johnson?

Jimmie Johnson; "Easy on the Eyes" according to Chandra Johnson

Interesting article I spotted on SportingNews.com about Jimmie and Chandra. It seems that Jimmie likes to cook and will be found many times in the kitchen cooking dinner. I know that he definitely likes to Bar-B-Q. He grew up camping almost every weekend (while racing) and the cooking was usually done out on the Bar-B-Q. From that he says that he learned to be a pretty good cook.

Chandra had some interesting things to say about her husband;

“I think people see how focused he is at the racetrack, but I see a guy who likes to let loose and have fun,” she says. “He’s always enjoying himself. He really does work hard and play hard.”

“Across the board, he has a lot of energy,” she says. “Right now, he’s pretty dedicated to working out. If he doesn’t exercise and exert some energy, he’s a handful at the end of the day.”

“I have never met anyone more determined or hard-working in my life,” she says. Chandra adds that Jimmie has always been adept at handling pressure.

“I think the fact that he’s so laid back really helps,” she says. “He really sees the big picture and doesn’t get caught up in the small details.”

“Well, Jimmie is very easy on the eyes,” Chandra admits. “I think he’s a captivating person, inside and out.”

Congratulations to Jimmie and Chandra Johnson; they are expecting a baby!

The news starting coming into my office here at Jimmie Johnson Chevrolet in San Diego that Jimmie and Chandra Johnson were expecting a baby. Well rumors can spread fast and we didn’t want to be part of a false rumor so I went right to the source and got the facts. Yes it is true that Chandra is pregnant and will be expecting some time this summer (probably this July).

Jimmie and Chandra have stated all along that they wanted a family but they just weren’t sure when that would happen. Well it has been four straight years of Jimmie being the Sprint Cup Champion and now he and Chandra are going to produce a Little Champion of their own. No word yet whether they want a boy or girl or if it doesn’t matter. I know that Jimmie grew up with all brothers and Chandra I believe had brothers and sisters (don’t quote me on that one).

If it is a boy I’m sure that he will have plenty of exposure to the racing world and could be a future Sprint Cup Champion like his father. If it’s a girl I’m sure she will have the beauty of her mother and could be a future model just like her mother. Either way I know that Jimmie and Chandra will do what’s best for their little bundle of joy. It seems the philosophy of the Johnson home is to give your best to whatever you set your hand to do and have fun while you’re doing it.

That’s the same philosophy that we use here at Jimmie Johnson Chevrolet in San Diego. All of us here at the dealership want to say congratulations to Jimmie and Chandra Johnson. Jimmie you think racing is hard wait until you try parenting! It will really try your patience but it is well worth it all when you see them grow up to become champions in life.

Jimmie Johnson comments on Hendrick teammate, Mark Martin

I read in the Motor Sports Digest blog about Jimmie Johnson’s quotes about his Hendrick teammate Mark Martin. I thought the comments were very interesting and that I would pass them onto you. This is what Jimmie had to say;

"He's too humble of a man, and doesn't understand what he's done in this sport, for this sport, how many young guys have respected what he's done,"

Then he turned to Mark Martin and spoke to him directly. ."You mentioned earlier how we weren't around each other for me to look at your style and want to drive like you. But coming up through ASA, everybody knew who Mark Martin was. I aspired at that time to have people speak of me as they did you. When I came to race in the Busch Series at the time, you were wearing us all out week in and week out. That was our chance to race against Mark Martin and to learn something from him. So ... I'm sure to all of us in this room, you are one of the greatest. We all think the world of you and respect the hell out of you."

I have never personally met Mark Martin but if he is anything like Jimmie Johnson then he is a very humble man. Whenever Jimmie comes here to Jimmie Johnson Chevrolet in San Diego, or I have gone to various functions to shoot pictures of him and Chandra I have always seen a very humble couple that gives their undivided attention to whomever they are talking to.
